About Us

about-quoteChesapeake Research Associates, located in historic Annapolis, Maryland, is a for-profit company founded by Mike Puma in 2002 to provide research and evaluation services to federal and state governments, non-profit organizations, and businesses both in the US and abroad. Our goal is to provide our clients with answers to the most challenging public policy questions based on state-of-the-art rigorous research methods and designs. Our primary expertise is in the design, implementation, and reporting of randomized controlled trials (RCT) in education and other social policy areas.

Decision-making, both in the public and private sectors, has seen an increasing dependence on the use of reliable and valid information. But, the simple provision of information alone is not enough. Consequently, our goal is to provide our clients with the knowledge and understanding that lie behind the data – to give meaning to the information in a way that is clear, policy relevant, and methodologically sound. This requires a depth of policy and substantive experience combined with the ability to design and conduct scientifically-valid and rigorous research and analysis. This ability is evidenced by our receipt of the 2005 Secretary’s Honor Award from the Administration for Children and Families, US Department of Health and Human Services for our work on the National Head Start Impact Study.

We have the professional skills to help you find solutions to your most challenging needs for evidence of program effectiveness, and can help you turn that information into clear policy and program action steps.
